7 Foods That Can Diminish Your Sex Drive

7 Foods That Can Diminish Your Sex Drive

You might never have considered it but food can play a major role in your sex drive. There are a number of food products which can decrease the testosterone levels in your body and spotting the foods that can will help you to maintain or even increase your testosterone levels naturally. The following are some of the foods that you should avoid in order to improve your sex life.

Chocolate

This one might come as surprising to some considering that chocolate has long been known as an aphrodisiac for years. While this may hold true for women, for men when it comes to chocolate and sex, chocolate actually lowers testosterone levels and lowers male sex drive dramatically.

Beans

True, beans are packed with proteins, and are great source of good carbohydrates. However, beans are brimming with phytoestrogenic lignans, and greatly affect the testosterone levels in your blood. In addition, the fiber in some bean varieties contains inositol, a phytoestrogenic compound that lowers the testosterone levels.

Alcohol

Alcohol intake is associated with decreased testosterone levels in men, even in moderate amounts. Based on research, it interferes with the production of testosterone. Chronic alcohol consumption also damages the reproductive system to an extent that permanently reduces the amount of testosterone produced. Sex therapists agree that too much alcohol causes erection problems and premature ejaculation in men, as well as sleepiness and difficulty achieving orgasm in both men and women.

Microwaveable popcorn

This popular movietime snack may satisfy our taste buds while watching a film, but it can also wreak havoc on your sex drive. The chemicals used in the inner lining of microwave popcorn bags, and those found in nonstick pots and pans, have been linked to a lower sex drive for men. These types of popcorn bags contain perfluoroalkyl acids, such as PFOA or PFOS, known to significantly lower sperm counts, according to a 2009 study.

Soy

You can consume small amounts of soy without worry, however because of its estrogenic properties, large quantities of soy products can mess with your libido. Research has shown that too much tofu, soy milk, soy sauce, or other soy products can lower testosterone levels and even sperm count. In a study, 120 milligrams of soy per day had negative sexual effects, so keep your soy intake to a minimum, otherwise you might regret it later in the bedroom.

Fried Foods

Indulging in greasy foods like cheeseburgers and french fries is a no-no when it comes to healthy eating and sex. The trans-fat found in fried foods is known to dramatically decrease the libido and the adverse effects of consuming these trans fatty acids includes an increase in the amount of abnormal sperm production for men. So as tempting as fried foods can be, it’s better to avoid them especially if you want to maintain your sexual performance.

Refined Carbohydrates

Any refined carbohydrates, like those found in bleached white flour, are bad news for your sex drive. This includes many pastas, cereals, breads, and snack foods like crackers, cookies, and chips. Large amounts of refined carbs will cause your testosterone levels to decrease. The sugars from these carbohydrates can cause weight gain and raise estrogen levels as testosterone is depleted. Instead, reach for good carbs like vegetables and whole grains instead.

Some of the foods on this list are considered “comfort foods” and for many they can be addictive. It’s easy to allow ourselves to fall into bad eating habits, but if you want to have a healthier sexual drive, you’re going to have to make some tough culinary choices. However don’t fret, as it only takes relatively small tweaks in your lifestyle and eating habits to affect such change. Hopefully this article has given you the motivation to avoid such foods.
